Self-knowledge makes a person face his deep doubts and fears because it is a serious view of the way of life, and self-knowledge requires serious work at first and then pays off for the rest of his life.

Rather than knowing our favorite colors, our favorite college major, or our favorite singer, self-knowledge is the process of understanding the deeper dimensions within each one of us. Each of us ends up wanting to explore these lesser known parts, especially as we try to get out of various critical situations and evolve into a better version of ourselves.
