At the end of the 10th century, the Minsk Icon of the Most Holy Theotokos was transferred by Saint Equal-to-the-Apostles Prince Vladimir from Korsun to Kiev and placed in the Church of the Tithes (the consecration of the church in 996 is commemorated on May 12), where it remained for more than 500 years. In 1500, during the capture of Kiev by Khan Mengli-Girey, a certain Tatar, tearing off the robe and decorations from the miraculous icon, threw it into the Dnieper.

After some time, the holy image of the Queen of Heaven miraculously appeared in Minsk on the Svisloch River. The icon, which had landed on the shore, surrounded by extraordinary light, was solemnly transferred to the church in honor of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, located in the castle of the Minsk appanage princes. This happened on August 13, 1500, therefore the celebration of the miraculous image was established on this day.

In 1616, the holy icon was transferred to the Minsk Church in honor of the Descent of the Holy Spirit.
