Al-Nawawi's Forty is a book that contains forty noble hadiths, collected by Imam Al-Nawawi, who committed to collecting them to be authentic. Al-Nawawi explained the reason for his collection of the forty, so he said:

“Among the scholars gathered the forty in the fundamentals of the religion, some in the branches, some in jihad, some in asceticism and some in sermons, and all of them are good intentions, may God be pleased with those who seek them. I have seen the collection of forty more important than all of this, and it is forty hadiths that contain all of that, and each hadith is a great rule of the religion, and the scholars have described it as the orbit of Islam on it, or half of Islam, or a third of it, or so.”

Then I made a commitment in these forty days that they be correct, and deleted their chains of transmission to facilitate their memorization, then I followed them with a chapter on controlling their hidden words. The author completed her composition on the night of Thursday, Jumada Al-Awwal 29, 668 A.H.

Al-Nawawi said in the introduction to his book about this hadith and the extent to which he relied on it in the collection of the Forty Al-Nawawi: “The scholars have agreed on the permissibility of working with the weak hadith on the virtues of deeds, and with this, my reliance is not on this hadith, but on his saying - may God’s prayers and peace be upon him - in the authentic hadiths: “May the witness among you inform the absent,” and his saying: “May God bless a person who heard my statement and understood it, so he performed it as he heard it.” Professor Maher Al-Hindi commented on Al-Nawawi’s statement, that reliance on weak hadiths in the virtues of deeds is the saying of the majority and is not agreed upon.
