A high school student finds a notebook with supernatural power called the Death Note after a shinigami (the Reaper of Souls) dropped it on Earth. The Death Note grants the user the ability to kill anyone they have seen by writing their name in the note.

Light is trying to establish a world free of evil that he is in control of using the note, and from here the conflict between Light and Detective L, who is trying to arrest him, takes place.
