The Arabian Gulf Cup is a football tournament that takes place every two years in the Arab countries of the Persian Gulf. The first Gulf Cup tournament was held in 1970 AD in the Kingdom of Bahrain after the Olympic Games in Mexico. The tournament started with four teams, then the Arab Gulf teams joined to reach seven teams. After the outbreak of the second Gulf war, the Republic of Iraq, which returned to the Arabian Gulf Cup in the seventeenth edition, was excluded. In 2004 AD, after the Republic of Yemen national team was included in the previous round of the Gulf 25 that preceded it, bringing the number of teams to eight teams.
