May God Almighty commend him - for his dear book are pious, sincere and loyal scholars, among the flags of guidance, and the imams of righteousness and religion. Some of them followed the path of brevity, and some of them followed the path of verbosity and exaggeration, and some of them confined themselves to interpreting the tradition, and some of them combined (narration and know-how) to other than the methods of the commentators and their methods in the old and the modern. The scholarly Imam, the Hafidh al-Thiqa, the father of al-Fida (Ismail bin Katheer) who died in the year 774 AH was at the forefront of these leading imams among the most talented commentators, and he elaborated an interpretation of the Holy Book
