Sheikh Russell, the youngest son of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, was born on 16 October 1974 at the historic Bangabandhu Bhaban in Dhaka. From an early age, Russell was a very lively member of the family.

Sheikh Russell's world revolved around his father Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and mother Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib, sisters Sheikh Hasina and Sheikh Rehana and brothers Sheikh Kamal and Sheikh Jamal. On the night of 15 August 1975, Sheikh Russell was assassinated along with his family members in a domestic and foreign conspiracy.

The elder sister Sheikh Hasina has written a memoir book about Sheikh Russell "Our Little Russell Gold". The book tells the story of Russell's childhood. The book was first published in 2016.
