Muhammad Zafar Iqbal

The most popular name among the teenage readers of Bangladesh is Muhammad Zafar Iqbal. He is basically a famous writer, physicist and educator in this country. He gained popularity in a very short time for his books on teenage literature, children's books, science fiction and mathematics. Muhammad Zafar Iqbal was born on 23 December 1952 in Sylhet. Due to the job of freedom fighter Baba Faizur Rahman, he has studied in different districts of the country. After graduating from the Department of Physics at Dhaka University, he went to the University of Washington, USA with a scholarship to earn a PhD degree. After completing his PhD, he completed post-doctoral research at the California Institute of Technology. He later joined the famous Bell Communications Research Lab as a researcher. Returning to the country in 1994, he joined Shahjalal University of Science and Technology as the Head of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering. Muhammad Zafar Iqbal's book has always come up with a special appeal to the teenagers of this country. He has enlightened the minds of countless teenagers in this country with his numerous books on teen literature, science fiction, science and mathematics. Muhammad Zafar Iqbal's books like Dipu Number Two, My Friend Rashed, I Tapu, Shanta Parivar, Dasyi Kojan etc. are very popular. Several of his stories later appeared on TV screens as dramas and films. He is also a prominent columnist. The Bangladesh Mathematical Olympiad has also been developed under his umbrella. Muhammad Zafar Iqbal's book attracts all book readers. He has been awarded many times for his outstanding contribution to literature. Notable among them are Bangla Academy Award (2004) and Meril-Prothom Alo Award for Best Playwright (2005). He has also won numerous awards, including the Kazi Mahbubullah Jebunnesa Medal (2002), the Sheltech Literary Medal (2003), and the Euro Children's Literature Medal (2004).
