Set in 199X (end of the 20th century) after the final war, when civilization and people's order was lost due to a global nuclear war and conflicts were repeated. A hard-boiled action that depicts the life of Kenshiro, the folklore of the legendary assassination fist "Hokuto Shinken", which appeared in the world of weak meat and strong food dominated by violence. It is one of the representative works of "Weekly Shonen Jump" in the 1980s, and is the biggest hit and masterpiece of manga artist Tetsuo Hara and manga author Buronson. The first serialized version was published in "Weekly Shonen Jump" (Shueisha) No. 41 in 1983 to No. 35 in 1988, and caused a big boom at that time.

In terms of content, in addition to the fateful story that characters such as Kenshiro who use Hokuto Shinken weave while fighting using various fist methods, Hokuto Shinken (mainly a villain's) human head and Depictions of the body bursting, screams and screams of death demons such as "Hidebu", "Abeshi", "Tawaba", Kenshiro's deciding line when telling the other party that "you are dead", and " Expressions such as "Poke a secret hole" became popular.

The book at the time of serialization was a total of 27 volumes of Jump Comics published from 1984 to 1989.
