Tests IETLS with corrections: Listening, Reading and Writing (Toeic, Toefl)
The IELTS (International English Language Testing System) is a standardized English exam made up of two separate tests. The Academic IELTS test is destined to students who wish to attend higher education institutions abroad. The General Training IELTS allows professionals wishing to work abroad to certify their level of English. The IELTS is graded out of 9 points and is divided into 4 sections: reading, listening, speaking, and writing. The test takes about 4 hours.
Listening: Section 1 - Short Conversation
On Application: You will hear a recording of about 5 minutes, then you will need to answer 10 questions. This will be a conversation using basic "survival" English – names, numbers, etc.
On Exam Day: You can only listen to the audios one time.
Tip: Be sure to read the instructions! Many candidates miss the instruction saying to not write more than three words!
Listening : Section 2 - Monologue:
On Application: You will need to respond to 10 questions corresponding to an audio of 5 to 7 minutes. One speaker will discuss a general topic that you would probably hear in an English-speaking country – nothing academic.
On Exam Day: You can only listen to the audios one time.
Tip: Familiarize yourself with the British accent! Even though different types of accents are used in the IELTS, the main one is British.
Listening Section 3 - Long conversation:
On Application: This part consists of a conversation between 2 to 4 speakers, in an academic setting, for 5 to 7 minutes.
On Exam Day: You can only listen to the audios one time.
Tip: Spelling counts! You need to spell correctly to be able to answer the questions in this section.
Listening Section 4 - Lecture:
On Application: This part evaluates academic English and is made up of 10 questions. There is only one speaker, usually a professor, who is teaching a course at university (about an academic or scientific subject, such as the life of an author). The recording lasts about 5 to 7 minutes.
On Exam Day: You can only listen to the audios one time.
Tip: Before the audio begins, have a quick look at the questions. This will help you know what to listen for in the audio!
Reading Section 1 - First Text :
On Application: You will respond to 13 or 14 questions per text extract. The questions will either be multiple choice or open questions.
On Exam Day: You will respond to the questions on the answer sheet given at the beginning of the exam. The 3 sections are of the same type and do not have specific instructions for each.
Tip: Stick with your first response! Only change it if you are absolutely sure that you chose the wrong one the first time.
Reading Section 2 - Second Text:
On Application: You will respond to 13 to 14 questions per text extract. The questions will either be multiple choice or open questions.
On Exam Day: You will respond to the questions on the answer sheet given at the beginning of the exam. The 3 sections are of the same type and do not have specific instructions for each.
Tip: Read the instructions in detail, and do not make any typos! In this section, if your response is not exactly what is asked for, it will be marked incorrect!
Reading Section 3 - Third Text:
On Application: You will respond to 13 to 14 questions per text extract. The questions will either be multiple choice or open questions.
On Exam Day: You will respond to the questions on the answer sheet given at the beginning of the exam. The 3 sections are of the same type and do not have specific instructions for each.
Tip: Know your synonyms! You will probably not see keywords in the text, but rather their synonyms. That is why it's important to know the meaning of a keyword rather than just the word.
Writing : Task 1 - Short Essay :
You need to write at least 150 words to summarize, describe, compare, and explain visual information (one or several tables, graphs, or diagrams) in your own words. You should include the most important information in your essay.
Writing : Task 2 - Long Essay
