Aces Up

During game time the app presents six spaces for cards, including a full card deck. The cards are moved around with finger gestures on the screen through drag-and-drop functionality. The goal of the game is to remove cards from the game until only the Aces are left. When the game round begins, four cards have been drawn and visibly placed on four prepared card spaces. The player may remove any visible card that share the same suit (spades, hearts, diamonds, clubs) as another visible card but that is of a lower value – the Aces is of a higher value than the Kings. If one of the four prepared card spaces becomes empty, the player may move any visible card from one of the other three spaces to the empty space – this could free cards under the card that was moved. A good memory might help the player to perform a good move. The player may at any time use the deck up to the right to draw four new cards that are placed on top of each of the four prepared card spaces, hiding the cards that may already be there. The player will not be able to see which cards that will be drawn from the deck before they have been placed. The game continues until the player runs out of possible moves – there are no cards of the same color but lower value to remove, there are no empty spaces to move cards to, the deck has no cards left. If only the four Aces are left, visibly placed on the prepared spaces, the round is counted as a win for the player. If more cards are left in the game, it does not count as a win but a loss.

The player is free to begin a new game round at any point in time. The players wins, losses and record of number of cards left in a game round is saved as simple game statistics and can be viewed through an alternative in the games menu. The game rules are also available to read as an alternative in the game menu.

The game is played through simple, not time-consuming moves, and a single game round can be carried out in a few minutes if the player chooses a fast playing style. The game is therefore suited to spend small amounts of time where the player might find it necessary to suspend the game on short notice; at the same time, the player is free to use the app longer when they have time.
