The family kit

Most document apps store your files. After Me gives your family access to them.

When you create a Family Kit, the app generates two things: an encrypted .afterme file containing all your documents, and a printed QR Key Card. Give the card to a trusted person — a partner, an adult child, a solicitor. Keep the file on a USB drive, in Google Drive, or anywhere accessible.

When the time comes, your loved one downloads After Me on their own phone. They scan the QR card, select the file, and your vault opens — step by step, guided through exactly what to do.

After Me is local-first, your documents are encrypted on your device with AES-256-GCM — the same standard used by banks and governments. Nothing leaves your device unless you choose it. We have no ability to see, access, or decrypt your documents. No one does except you.

Optional encrypted Cloud Backup is available for personal device recovery. It does not provide family access — that is what the Family Kit is for.
