APIAR

APIAR is an app which applies a combination of analogue and digital computing to simulate Hybrid Computing. It is designed as a toolbox for the experimenter, school student, or civilian scientist who want to experiment with Chromathica. Chromathica is about getting analogue data and converting it to visible light, and then recording it as a JPG and CSV file. All the output from the sensors are recorded as a JPG and CSV file. You can record the observations from either a timer set to a number of milliseconds or with the manual capture button. The JPG files are available through your gallery, however you will need to find the files in the ColourPicker directory. The CSV file records it as red, blue, green values.

The JPG file and the CSV file can be sent to other users of the same app, and they can open and see the data or view the image, depending on which sensor you have recorded.

Please note: that you will find variations in the observations due to the different quality of the technology you are using, as well as the settings you use on your phone or the settings of the timer. You will have to do some experimenting to see what the best settings are for your purpose.

The current sensors in this version are;

Camera:

You can point the camera at a colour and the JPG records it as a colour square.

Sound:

This records an observation for the highest volume frequency in the audio spectrum that has been broken up into thirds.

Movement:

This records the movement in XYZ, and represents them in the three colour.

Keyboard:

This records the characters you type into colours and records it.

Suggested uses:

Tracking horse hoof movements, sending secret messages, picking colours for house decorations, measuring vibrations, finding the loudest sound source, mapping changes in cloud cover for storm watching etc… These are just a few of the ways the app has already been used.
