I myself struggled with mathematics during my school years. I was literally that student that dreaded, stressed and looked the least forward to math tests and that long and nerve wrecking wait to receive those test results. When I went to study education, even though I had struggled with maths, I still always persevered because of my love for math and I chose to become a mathematics teacher. At that time for me it wasn't necessarily on becoming a teacher because of my love for the subject but rather having a personal impact on the lives of young people. I experienced first-hand at school what a lasting effect and positive difference a great teacher can make.

While I was studying math I discovered it to be a very different subject to what I had originally thought. I started to see that mathematics is immensely practical and even beautiful. It's not just about finding answers but also learning to ask the right questions and it is not about mindlessly crunching numbers but rather about forming new ways to see and solve problems, so we can solve them by combining insight with imagination.

After years of professional development that went into forming my craft to assist Gr8 to Gr12 math students in the classroom and in an extra math lesson environment I created BRIGHTSPARK. Now I can assist students in learning mathematics in possibly ways they have never been taught before. By unpacking the mathematics working through covering a vast number of examples of examination and test papers targeting each topic of the math curriculum separately according to the CAPS document. Making actual videos where I explain each memo in detail. BRIGHTSPARK can help students truly make sense of mathematics and how to approach the subject when preparing for tests and exams. It's like having your own personal extra math teacher in the palm of your hand.

I can confidently say that helping students make sense of math and in the process become more confident, removing that fear that can affect their learning negatively and creating a new understanding for math, this is why today, I love mathematics.
