The rich and diverse archaeological heritage of Central Europe is often insufficiently open to the public and faces a growing threat from developers as well as natural processes. The VirtualArch project reveals Europe's archaeological heritage to stakeholders responsible for economic development. The activities focus on the sustainable use and protection of archaeological monuments hidden under water, younger buildings or threatened by other human activities. The project develops innovative visualization approaches and methods in the field of virtual and augmented reality supporting the protection and conservation of archaeological heritage. For the Slovak Republic, the pilot site is the city of Nitra, respectively. castle hill with adjoining archaeological sites from the Middle Ages. In cooperation with the Episcopal Office, the City of Nitra and the Ponitriansky Museum, the project aims to increase the capacity of public officials involved in the preservation and protection of the cultural heritage of the City of Nitra.

The Institute of Archeology is an excellent workplace of the Slovak Academy of Sciences and thanks to its portfolio it has been chosen among the partners of the VirtualArch project within the Interreg - Central Europe Program 2014-2020.
