About Birds of War

Birds of War is a three-team aerial PvP game built around nest raids, egg theft, and chaotic bird combat.

Developed by HexNest Games, its main draw is the 3v3v3 format, where every match has three nests to attack, protect, or exploit. Teams do not simply chase eliminations: carrying an egg home matters just as much as stopping another bird’s escape. Players looking to download Birds of War should know that it is a Windows PC Steam game, not a mobile release. Its main match elements include:

  • Three competing teams fight across the sky for rival eggs.

  • Different bird classes support raiding, scouting, carrying, and ambushing roles.

  • Physics-based melee can knock egg carriers far off course.

  • Proximity chat enables quick teamwork, distractions, and risky bluffs.

  • Official mod tools let players build and share custom maps.

Three-Nest Raids With Constant Pressure

Birds of War centers on a simple but demanding loop: raid an enemy nest, escape with an egg, and defend your own nest from the remaining team. Because there are three sides, a fight between two teams can quickly become an opening for the third. A squad may be defending its carrier from pursuers when another group slips into its unguarded nest. This 3v3v3 aerial PvP structure makes positioning and timing more important than blindly chasing opponents. Players can switch between attacking, escorting, and defending as the match changes, which keeps the objective clear even when the action becomes crowded.

Bird Classes Create Distinct Team Jobs

Birds of War offers bird classes with different tactical strengths rather than treating every player as the same flier. Shoebill is suited to absorbing pressure and transporting eggs, making it useful when the team needs a sturdier carrier. Pigeon can provide vision and control space, while Eagle can strike from above with a diving attack. These roles give teams reasons to split responsibilities during a raid, such as sending a fast attacker ahead while another bird watches the escape route. The full nine-bird lineup has not been completely revealed, so the final selection and balance may change over time.

Melee Brawls Powered by Ragdoll Physics

Combat in Birds of War is melee-first and relies heavily on physical knockback. A well-timed headbutt or close-range hit can ragdoll an opponent across the map, interrupting an egg run or separating a defender from the nest. This makes encounters less about long-distance aim and more about choosing the right moment to collide, dive, or push someone into danger. An egg carrier can be stopped by one forceful impact, so teammates often need to clear a path instead of leaving the carrier alone. The resulting fights are deliberately messy, especially around narrow nest entrances and escape routes.

Proximity Chat Supports Teamwork and Mind Games

Birds of War keeps proximity voice chat active, allowing nearby players to hear each other during tense raids and chases. Teammates can call out an incoming attacker, warn a carrier about an ambush, or coordinate a quick distraction without relying only on visible movement. Opponents can also hear conversations when close enough, which creates room for bluffing or deliberately drawing attention away from a nest. This feature adds personality to public matches, but it can also bring noise or unpleasant exchanges. Players who prefer a calmer session may need to rely more on team coordination and personal voice settings where available.

Custom Maps Through the Official Mod Kit

Birds of War includes an Unreal Engine 5.6 Mod Kit for players who want to create their own battle spaces. Map makers can place spawn points, nests, egg locations, and objective markers for modes such as KOTH, Domination, and S&D. A custom arena can be tested in custom games before being published to the Steam Workshop for others to try. This gives the community room to experiment with tighter nest defenses, longer flight routes, or unusual ambush spots. The tools are aimed at players willing to spend time building, while standard matchmaking remains the simpler choice for quick matches.
