Blood, urine, semen and saliva can present visible fluorescence. UV or black light reveals changes on the surface of objects as it causes specific fluorescence in materials depending on composition and age.

Ultraviolet light  is 'beyond violet light' and the visible spectrum that can be detected by the human eye. It cannot, therefore, be seen directly. Detectors that are sensitive to UV convert it into a form that we can see.

There is increasing evidence that patients who have cataracts, cancer or other eye problems treated by having their corneas surgically removed and replaced with artificial alternatives, often end up able to see colors in the ultraviolet range of the spectrum – colors of light visible to night-hunting raptors.
