This student book is a teaching material for Mathematics subjects for students at the Junior High School/Madrasah Tsanawiyah level based on the 2013 Curriculum with the aim of helping students in the Mathematics learning process.
Mathematics is a universal language and therefore the mathematical abilities of students of a country are very easy compared to other countries. Apart from that, mathematics is also used as a measuring tool to determine educational progress in a country. We know PISA (Program for International Student Assessment) and TIMSS (The International Mathematics and Science Survey) which periodically measure and compare, among other things, the progress of mathematics education in several countries.
International standards like this provide direction in formulating mathematics learning in SMP/MTs. The results of comparing what we have taught so far with what has been assessed internationally shows that there are differences, both regarding material and competency. This difference is the basis for formulating Mathematics learning in the 2013 Curriculum.
The Mathematics Student Book for Class VII SMP/MTs Curriculum 2013 was written based on material and competencies adapted to international standards. Regarding material, for example, in addition, since class VII, we have been taught, among other things, about numbers, sets, algebra and its applications, comparison, geometry and data presentation. A balance between the mathematics of numbers and the mathematics of patterns and shapes is always maintained.
Knowledge competency does not only extend to understanding conceptually but also to application through procedural knowledge in solving mathematical problems. Thinking skills competencies are also sharpened to be able to solve problems that require high order thinking, such as reasoning through problem solving through modeling, proof and estimation/approach.
At the beginning of each chapter in this student book, a chapter cover is presented. This section contains interesting illustrations and short descriptions related to the material in the chapter concerned. Apart from that, at the beginning of the chapter the basic competencies and learning experiences that you will achieve in each chapter are also presented.
Key words are the essence of the material. Read the key words first before you study the content of the material.
The content of the material in this student book is in the form of learning activities that require students to be actively involved in learning so that students will get the expected experience. At the beginning of each lesson, there is a context or problem related to the activity. Some of the problems presented are given with solutions, some are equipped with problem solving instructions, and some are left as problems for students to solve.
In each study, we follow a scientific approach, namely observing, asking, digging up information, reasoning, and communicating which are presented with certain icons, namely Let's Observe, Let's Ask, Let's Dig Up Information/A Little Information/Let's Try, and Come on. We Share. This student book describes the minimum effort that students must make to achieve the expected competencies.
In accordance with the approach used in the 2013 Curriculum, students are encouraged to search for other learning sources that are available and spread widely around them. The teacher's role is very important to increase and adapt students' absorption capacity to the availability of activities in this book.
