The history of the Orthodox calendar

Before the incarnation of the Lord there were two calendars: one of the Egyptians - 365 days and another of the Romans, 355 days. Annually, there was a ten-day time difference between these two calendars, and even between each of them and the solar calendar. The Roman emperor Julius Caesar, in 46 BC, brings a correction of the calendar. This calendar, called the "Julian calendar," has been used by all of Christendom for 15 centuries.

On February 24, 1582, Pope Gregory XIII made a reform, and since then the calendar has been called "Gregorian" or "new style."

In 1923, at a congress held in Constantinople, most Orthodox Churches decided to abandon the Julian calendar and adopt the Gregorian calendar. We mention that the date of Easter is still calculated based on the Julian calendar. Hence the inconsistency with the date of Easter in the Catholic Church.
