It is a bird with a wide geographic distribution in Brazil, inhabiting dirty fields, secondary forests, plantations and borders of pastures. Terrestrial, feeds on seeds. It is a game bird. In Brazil it occurs in the Northeast, South and Southeast regions, and in the North in part of the State of Amazonas. It is also found in Peru, Bolivia, Paraguay and Argentina.
