A better ride sharing option for students.
A popular problem for students is finding rides to other universities and ridesharing apps such as Uber and Lyft, which are considered reasonable options for local area travel, are very expensive for rides past half an hour on top of the fact that you don’t know much about the driver except that they have passed the vetting process. For these reasons, Facebook groups have been popular for student ridesharing as they are private and the admins verify you are a student using your computing ID and you are exposed to a list of postings of other students in the group stating where and when they are going. However, it’s not the most user friendly interface to use as there is no search filter to narrow down destination locations or date/time and sometimes people don’t update when their cars are full so you don’t find out until after messaging them. Overall, Facebook groups and other ride sharing apps are an inconvenient way to get rides from college towns or hometowns because they are too expensive or they are difficult to use, so there needs to be a better application that supports this functionality.
