Founded in 1974, it aims to be the most representative business confederation at national level, a strong, homogeneous and comprehensive employers' associative structure that can more effectively defend the interests of Portuguese companies and represents, in a transversal and balanced way, sectorial and social associations. regional offices, as well as all Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Portugal.

He is a member, at national level, of the Economic and Social Council and of the Permanent Commission for Social Consultation, among many other consultative bodies and specialized commissions, and, internationally, of BusinessEurope, BIAC, OIE and ILO.

It has its headquarters in Lisbon and delegations in Porto and Brussels.
