The Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 of the Parliament of India amended the Citizenship Act of 1955 providing a path to Indian citizenship for religious minorities from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan.[2] The intended religious minorities were explicitly listed as Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis and Christians, raising concerns that Muslims were being marginalised.[2] The beneficiaries had to have entered India on or before 31 December 2014, and should have faced "religious persecution or fear of religious persecution" in their countries of origin.The Act also relaxed residence requirement for naturalization from 11 years to 5 years for these migrants.

Bill seeks to grant Indian Citizenship to persons belonging to Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain, Parsi and Christian communities on ground of religious persecution in Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh Narendra Modi government is committed to protect rights of each citizen of the country. नागरिकता (संशोधन) विधेयक 2019 क्या है?

नागरिकता (संशोधन) विधेयक (Citizenship Amendment Bill) 2019 को 9 दिसम्बर 2019 को लोकसभा ने पास कर दिया है. इस बिल का उद्येश्य पाकिस्तान, बांग्लादेश और अफगानिस्तान से आये 6 समुदायों (हिन्दू, ईसाई, सिख, जैन, बौद्ध तथा पारसी) के शरणार्थियों को भारत की नागरिकता देना है. इन 6 समुदायों में मुस्लिम समुदाय को शामिल ना किये जाने पर कई राजनीतिक पार्टियाँ इसका विरोध कर रहीं हैं.

भारत एक सेक्युलर, संप्रभुता संपन्न और शांतिप्रिय देश है. शायद यह पूरी दुनिया में ‘विविधता में एकता’ का परिचय करने वाला यह अकेला देश है. शायद यही कारण है कि कई देशों के नागरिक भारत की नागरिकता पाने को आतुर रहते हैं.
