About Dill GPS
A simple, energy efficient, gps navigation app for hikers and backpackers
Dill GPS is a multi-day backpacking navigation app for outdoor areas.
It has been in development for over two years, and we are so pleased with the result. We would enjoy to share with the rest of the walking community.
Dill relies on GPS as a sole method of navigation. No need for your device to constantly scan for Wi-Fi or mobile data signal in the great outdoors. This reduces battery drain, which is important, as the need to carry extra power banks adds excess weight to an already burdensome backpack.
With more energy efficiency in mind. A 'bare bones' approach is utilised. No power hungry 3d animations or fancy transitions are used. This reduces CPU power consumption and aids timely information updates for users to base decisions in a clear and concise manner.
An auto pause feature, available on some devices, helps reduce battery usage further by enabling and disabling GPS updates when the user is still, sitting or sleeping.
All these efficiencies and more help your device to go many days without the requirement for charging.
Different map styles are bundled, including satellite imagery.
Dill employs the GPX file format for route data.
