We love to crochet baby sets, and especially looking for an easy to make crochet cardigan pattern. Look very pretty and can suit either a boy or a girl. My friend was desperate to find a lilac crochet cardigan for her daughter to wear for a wedding, and found it difficult to find one with a pretty pattern, something a little bit more fancy than just plain.

Do you have a favorite pattern from a crochet cardigan for baby? will you be crocheting a cardigan?

Upon working the pattern for the hooded cape, I decided to group it under the crochet baby sweater. The only true difference between the two is the crochet baby sweater has sleeves and the cape doesn't. The pattern for the hooded cape is similar to the shell crochet baby blanket.

There are a number of ways to do a shell pattern. The one in this cape uses 2dc ch1 2dc in the same space and each succeeding row. You repeat the shell in the space of the shell from the previous row. You can increase the number of dc in your shell as long as you have an equal number on either side of your ch1 space. In the shell crochet blanket, the shell pattern is 5dc in dc, and each row there after, you do a dc in the center dc of the shell below. A third different style of shell pattern is a single crochet in the center dc of the shell from the previous row. They all give the same effect, just some are tighter looking than others.

In adjusting the size you can do a great number of things. The easiest thing is to use a bigger needle to work the pattern. This will make the piece look nice, but may make it look "looser" than the original pattern. The other way is to add stitches using the needle recommended. If your pattern is worked over 5 stitches, then increase 5 stitches for each additional length.
