About edimus

Edimus provides the tools to increase your nutritional awareness

Edimus is latin for "we eat". The goal of edimus.org is to raise the collective level of nutritional awareness in the world. In order to accomplish this edimus.org provides free tools to help you: learn, track, and navigate, the complex topic of food.

Our app is simple but purposeful. It's intended to be clean, and intuitive. You won't find many grams, Calories, or joules to distract you. All foods will have their own macronutrient breakdown utilizing pie charts. There will also be micronutrient breakdowns in the sections below. A full star represents an excellent source of a nutrient. A half star represents an adequate source of a nutrient. All nutritional data has been obtained from the US Department of Agriculture's FoodData Central Database.

The Science section is where you can learn more about published scientific research relating to foods as it pertains to health. This consists of an index which is broken down by categories and tags. It is vital to note that while the topics displayed in the index -and the studies themselves- do refer to medicine, there is a world of difference between published medical science and medical practice. Content provided by Edimus is not intended to be medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Additionally, individual studies do not show the full picture of a situation, some studies contradict each other, others may not have had enough participants, or may have even been sponsored by interested parties. The studies themselves though, can serve as a basis to open up new topics of discussion with your healthcare provider. By making this information more readily available it will hopefully lead to more awareness, and more exposure about the studies themselves. This should lead to more scrutiny and therefore higher quality research available.

The other important aspect of the science section is that it is not intended as a one way information source. We encourage you to read and submit interesting studies you have found. The more sources and study results about a particular topic the better. The main requirement to submit a study is that it must link exclusively to the U.S. National Institutes of Health's National Library of Medicine. This can be either through PubMed, PMC, or any other resource within it. Once our users visit the source, they can either read an abstract or obtain details on how to read the full publication. This requirement ensures our users are never taken to untrustworthy sites. After you submit a study, it will be reviewed by Edimus to ensure the chosen food is actually relevant to the indicated study, the content is not offensive or spam, and that it's accessible through the National Library of Medicine. Assuming everything goes well, it will eventually be marked as published and listed on the app for other users to rate. Keep in mind users are not only rating the study itself, but also how you have decided to tag the study. This means you may have found an amazing study, but if you tag it with the wrong effect, it may receive poor ratings. Studies which receive poor ratings will eventually be hidden from the index.

The diary section can be used to keep track of things you care about. Hopefully this includes what you're eating. All diary entries have a type.. whether its a meal, a drink, a moment, etc. For each entry you can specify a title, photo, and tags. The tags can be utilized to effortlessly search through previous entries.

The notes section allows you to add quick notes and reminders. The topic of these notes can be anything you care about. This can be information from an interesting study, or it can be a note about a meal you had, or a simple reminder to follow up on something. Feel free to utilize it in any way you find helpful.

Thats all for now, but a lot of innovation is coming down the pipeline. If you encounter any issues, have some concerns, or you simply want to say hello, you may reach us at [email protected].
