Responding to a divine commission, Seventh-day Adventists have enthusiastically undertaken the work of proclaiming through the printed page the truths of the Sabbath and of the second advent of Christ.

In more than a century of evangelizing activity, our Publications work has been a powerful instrument to spread the third angel's message throughout the world.

Through the years we have received, through the pen of Ellen White, special direction regarding the task of publishing and circulating our printed matter.

In these councils, the sale of our books and newspapers with the truth is elevated to the category of a work comparable to that of the evangelical ministry, and whoever sells these books is considered an evangelical colporteur.

In 1902 a number of statements by Ellen White related to the canvassing ministry, which were published under the title of Manual for Canvassers.

Subsequent advice of Sr. White on the Ministry of Publications led to an extension of that work, and in 1920 appeared the precious volume called Colporteur Evangelist [The Evangelical Colporteur].

The work, published in several languages, including Spanish, circulated widely.
