The first sections of the book were made in the third century BC. The authors relied in part on the Pentateuch and had expanded sections of Genesis, Numbers and Deuteronomy. For example, 1 Enoch 1: 9 (the quote in the letter of Jude 1: 14-15) is originally a Midrash Deuteronomy 33: 2.

The Book of Enoch is an ancient Jewish religious work, attributed by tradition to Enoch, the great-grandfather of Noah, though modern scholars believe the oldest (mainly in the Book of the Watchers) sections to date of 300 BC, and last part (Book of Parables) probably late first century BC.

They have also been found several fragments in Aramaic and one in Hebrew (4Q317) Qumran. Tradition attributed its authorship to Enoch (also transliterated as English Enoch or Enoch), great-grandfather of Noah.
