About es1

What happens when two e- e- beams collide? Try es1 to check your answer!

es1 is a simulation of two charge particle beams colliding with one another. The simulation is one dimensional in space and velocity. The particles have mass but don't collide physically; however the do interact due to their electrical charge. The appropriate equations of motion are calculated using finite difference methods. The generated the electrical field is computed by solving Poisson's equation using a fast Fourier transform approach. The code was developed by A. Bruce Langdon and is documented in the book Plasma Physics by Birdsall and Langdon, McGraw-Hill, 1985.

es1 lets the user change many of the controlling parameters of the model. An Info choice gives several models for the user to try. The user can watch the time evolution of the simulation with a variety of diagnostic plots.
