About Floating Image

Float images and animated GIFs over other apps, with layers and touch control.

Floating Image places selected images and animated GIFs above other apps as movable overlays for reference, design, drawing, teaching, recording, presentations, and multitasking.

Add images from your device, move, scale, rotate, adjust opacity, hide or lock them, and manage layer order in the Layer Editor. Choose Photo Picker or the system file picker when adding images from inside the app. You can open one image with Open With or share multiple images from other apps.

Key features:

- Float images and animated GIFs above other apps

- Single- and multi-touch controls for moving, scaling, and rotating

- Global or per-image opacity

- Visibility, lock, and stacking controls

- Play, pause, and resume floating GIFs with a tap; a finished GIF plays again from the beginning on the next tap

- Hide images and GIFs through one shared setting

- Optional experimental mode can extend image opacity up to 100%; Android 12+ uses Canvas compatibility mode

- When the opacity extension is enabled, optionally start newly imported images at 100% opacity; existing images keep their current opacity

- Optional Control Dot and notification controls

Free and Pro:

- Free supports up to 2 floating images

- Pro supports up to 9 images, or up to 30 with High Capacity Image Mode

- Pro adds Pass Through for locked layers, angle reset, and clockwise 90-degree rotation

- One-time purchase; no subscription

Layer Editor and Control Dot:

The Layer Editor manages visibility, lock state, opacity, and stacking order. The optional Control Dot provides temporary global visibility and lock controls and opens the editor while you use another app. Temporary Dot modes do not overwrite saved layer settings.

Touch and overlay behavior:

On Android 10–11, transparent areas of PNG images can pass touches through to the app underneath at any image opacity when the system and app underneath allow it. On Android 12 and later, they can pass touches through when image opacity is below 80%; Floating Image uses 79% as its standard ceiling. At higher opacity, Canvas compatibility mode uses the full rectangular overlay area, so transparent pixels may no longer pass touches through. A playing GIF uses a stable touch area; transparent areas of a paused GIF may become usable outside Canvas mode. When Canvas mode is active, the full rectangular touch area remains. Pro Pass Through mode lets you use the app underneath locked image layers.

Image limits and supported formats:

High Capacity Image Mode can lower runtime image resolution. Image adding and external sharing respect both the app's image limit and, on some devices, the system's overlay-window capacity. PNG (including transparency), JPG/JPEG, WebP, and animated GIF are supported. Animated GIFs are kept as animations. Large static images are resized for floating overlays. Very large or damaged GIFs may be shown as a static preview; the original GIF file is kept.

Important notes:

Android's touch-safety threshold is 80%; Floating Image uses 79% as a 1% margin. Optional 100% behavior varies by system. Overlapping locked layers in Pass Through mode may be dimmed automatically. Some secure apps and screens block overlays. On some vivo/OriginOS devices, keep the app in Recents so the Control Dot remains available.

Privacy and permissions:

Images stay on your device and are not uploaded to a developer server. Display over other apps is required for overlays. Notifications and battery settings are optional.
