GhostSeeder - Cheat the torrent tracker (Unreleased)

GhostSeeder cheats a private torrent tracker into seeing you as a seeder, without downloading any torrent data. You just give GhostSeeder the torrent file and the magic begins.

GhostSeeder does not actually download or upload any torrent data. It only sends these so-called “announce” messages to the torrent tracker that basically say hey, I am currently seeding this torrent. So, the tracker sees you as a seeder for that torrent, even though you haven’t downloaded it.

Note that GhostSeeder does not cheat your ratio. The ratio remains unchanged. Because of this, there is no way to get you banned. It is the same if you limited your upload traffic to zero in your normal torrent client. Your ratio does not change but your seed time increases.

The major difference is that GhostSeeder does not need to download the torrent data to begin this seeding with zero upload traffic. It just needs the torrent file and immediately begins seeding with zero upload.

This is why you are a “ghost” seeder. You are seeding, but you actually don’t. You are cheating the tracker.

GhostSeeder is completely undetectable by private trackers. Download your torrent with a normal torrent client, stop it and give GhostSeeder that torrent file. There is no way for the tracker to detect what you do.

How is that possible?

Well, the BitTorrent protocol was designed for public use. Private torrent trackers are trying to restrict it and add their own rules, however the protocol has no built in protections for such cases.

Operation Details:

In order for GhostSeeder to succeed in its goal, it has to send these “announce” messages to the torrent tracker every 30 minutes. Once you start a torrent, GhostSeeder handles everything and works in the background to keep the torrent tracker informed about you seeding the torrent. When you stop all torrents in your list then GhostSeeder no longer works in the background, until you start a torrent again.

GhostSeeder emulates the behavior of normal torrent client software. Some torrent trackers restrict the use of specific client versions. You can choose which client to emulate in order to comply with the torrent tracker’s rules. Currently only a few emulated torrent clients are supported but the list will expand in future versions.
