About Graha
View planet positions on altitude/azimuth dial at any location, day and time.
This Android Application computes planetary positions using Keplerian orbital parameters using current time to the nearest minute. It allows user to input location (lat, lon) and choose planets whose positions are required to be viewed. On clicking GO, the App navigates to the Azimuth/Altitude dial plotted with planet positions. The concentric circles on the dial represent Altitudes in steps of 15 degrees, whereas Azimuth is illustrated on the 360 degree circular Dial. A line drawn from the center of the dial to the planet indicates that the planet is visible above the horizon.
The user can navigate forward and backward in time via touch screen to observe planetary movements. Time is incremented in minutes by touching on the right hemisphere of the dial, and decremented on touching the left. Similarly, Days are incremented or decremented on touching the space below the dial.
The accuracy of the planetary positions is quite appropriate for amateur observational astronomy or for educational purposes. The software produces right ascension (RA) and declination (DEC) to the nearest minute of time and provides accuracy of less than an arc minute. The computing algorithms are based on Kepler's planetary theory base lined on J2000 Epoch.
