The Nest Cam Outdoor is a CCTV camera to be installed outdoors. While its Full HD image quality is attractive, its subscription offering appeals much less.

When it comes to equipping your pavilion with video surveillance products, outdoor cameras are a first choice. And for good reason, they have the enormous advantage of alerting the owner as soon as a burglar enters his property. The Nest Cam Outdoor promises, as a bonus, a good image quality announced (Full HD and night vision) as well as continuous recordings. Is the commitment kept? Is this camera easy to install? We tell you everything.

It's the installation that will actually define whether or not the Nest Cam Outdoor is for you. Indeed, unlike the Netgear Arlo Pro which incorporates batteries, the Nest Cam Outdoor must be connected to the sector to operate. Nevertheless, to make installation easier, Nest delivers a cable with a length of 7.5 meters, which in our case proved sufficient, even if it was obviously necessary to play the drill.

A first hole in the wall of the house was needed to pass the power supply. Less complicated, we then had to pierce others to fix the support of the camera. The Nest Cam Outdoor being quite light (313 grams), the holes are small and Nest delivers the necessary screws, as well as accessories (small cable ties) to block the electrical wire during installation. If the magnetized fastening system can steer the Outdoor to ensure optimal framing, it is doubtful whether it is exposed to wind resistance. In our case, her installation under a roof overflow made her completely sheltered, including from rain. Note, however, that the camera is IP65 certified and therefore resists water splashes.

The camera's connection to the home network is done well wirelessly, over Wi-Fi. To get the best picture quality, we've created a second Wi-Fi hotspot near the Nest Cam Outdoor with a Netgear EX6130 Wi-Fi repeater. A very good product, delivering a stable AC1200 Wi-Fi network: a very important data when it comes to video surveillance.
