How to Write a Book Review learning app - With the growth in popularity of books again, as opposed to slouching in front of the television or a DVD, many people are now sharing their views on a particular book in a variety of ways. Whether it's discussing with friends or posting a blog on the Internet, talking about a book is akin to reviewing it. So why not take it to the next level, and actually review a book properly?
Not only will it give you valuable and enjoyable knowledge in writing, it may also bring you to the attention of book clubs and magazines, who may ask you to write reviews for them. Imagine that - getting paid for something you enjoy anyway! But in order to do a book justice, you need to know how to write a book review properly. It's fairly straightforward, but there are certain things you will want to keep in mind.
Simple Steps How to Write a Book Review:
Read the Book
Although this might seem fairly obvious, you would be surprised how many people don't read a book properly. Yet, if you want to know how to write a book review, the first thing you need to do is know what you're talking about.
If there are any parts you're not quite sure of, take a breather and re-read them until you grasp what the author is trying to say. Remember, this is a book review you're reading for, so you can't just skip onto the next section the way you might normally. Taking notes of various key points in the book will also help you write a better review.
Make a List of Questions as you Read
Since you're going to be writing a review that will normally inform someone as to whether they should read that book or not, it's wise to ask yourself the questions you'd want to know from a book review. Some examples may be:
- What is the key synopsis of the book, and to what genre should it belong
- Is the book in a logical order, or does it have jumping time frames
- Is the book title apt for what is contained within
- Are there any factual errors in the book, and does this affect the book
- Was it a satisfying read, even if it's not your normal genre
By asking these questions as you read, not only are you making sure your review is informative enough, you're answering the questions other readers may ask.
Writing the Review
Although there's no right or wrong way to write a book review, there are some guidelines that will help you when actually writing it:
- The most obvious is a brief outline of the book - its subject, point and depth
- Discuss what the author is trying to get over (this works for both fiction and non-fiction books)
- Both the book's strength and weaknesses, and how it could be improved
- How the book stands up to similar publications in that genre
Once you've written the first draft, take a break away from your review (it's never a good idea to hand in the first draft of any type of prose). Then, re-read your review, write a second draft with any weak areas corrected, and once you're happy with that and it's been proof read, that's it - you can now submit your book review! and download How to Write a Book Review app for learning more with interactive guide.
