HushTalk is a private communication app that combines one-to-one messaging with steganography — the art of hiding information inside ordinary images and videos.

KEY FEATURES

• Private 1-on-1 Chat

Send and receive text messages with friends. Your account is protected by secure Firebase Authentication.

• Image Steganography

Hide a secret text message inside any image from your gallery. The resulting image looks identical to the original and can be saved or shared anywhere. Recipients use HushTalk to extract the hidden message.

• Video Steganography

The same concept for video files. Embed a secret message inside an MP4 video on your device and share it through any channel.

• Personal Vault

Every image or video you've encoded is saved in your in-app Vault so you can revisit, decode, or re-share it later.

• Local Encoding

All steganography encoding and decoding happens on your device. The hidden plaintext message never leaves your phone — only the final stego-image or stego-video (which looks like a regular photo or video) is uploaded if you choose to share.

• Profile Management

Update your username, change your password, and manage your account from a single Profile screen. You can permanently delete your account and all associated data at any time from inside the app.

INTENDED USE

HushTalk is intended for users who value privacy in their everyday communication — protecting personal notes, passphrases, or private messages from casual observation. This includes journalists, researchers, students studying cryptography, and privacy-conscious users.

HushTalk is designed for lawful, personal, and educational use. Using the app to plan, coordinate, or conceal illegal activity is prohibited by our Terms of Service.

HOW YOUR DATA IS HANDLED

• Your email, username, and phone number are used to create and secure your account.

• Chat messages are stored so you can read them across sessions.

• Uploaded media is stored in a private media bucket.

• The plaintext of messages you hide inside media is never transmitted to our servers — only the final encoded image or video is uploaded if you share it.

• You can delete your account and all associated data at any time from the Profile screen, or by emailing mharis7y@gmail.com.

TECHNOLOGY

HushTalk is built on React Native and Expo, using Firebase Authentication and Firestore for account and messaging, and Appwrite Storage for user media. Steganography is implemented in native Android modules for speed and reliability.
