The contribution to research by whale watchers and sailors is fundamental and significant thanks to their regular presence at sea.

As part of the High Quality Whale-Watching® quality certification, operators sign an agreement with which they undertake not only to comply with the Code of Good Conduct, other virtuous and eco-sustainable behaviors, but also to contribute to the collection of data on presence and behavior cetaceans and marine biodiversity.

The data that can be collected have been established by the document drawn up in Resolution 6.20 of ACCOBAMS, how to determine the species of cetaceans sighted, number of animals, distance, behavior, sighting of ancillary species of marine biodiversity, the meteo-marine conditions, presence of maritime, longline and plastic traffic and the ability to record comments.
