Jesus began to preach a message of repentance, and from among His followers hand-picked twelve men with whom He worked most closely, teaching them even more intensely than to the multitudes. These men have come to be known as the twelve disciples, or the apostles. His life and teachings led to the emergence of a new religion – Christianity, which became the dominant religious force in the western world.

Jesus, who is divine and has existed from eternity became a man to live on earth with us.
