The face is white with pale eyes and a red ring around the eyes. In flight it is possible to see that the lateral tail has white and brown tips under the wings. It is common and widely distributed in South and Central America. It is found in more forested habitats. Occasionally visits feeders, but is very skittish. It is usually seen alone on the forest floor. The chant is an introductory whistle followed by a longer note.
