A simple calculator to assess risk of progression of kidney disease
A simple to calculate the risk of progression of kidney function in individuals with chronic kidney disease. Assessing the risk of progression of kidney disease is helpful in the management of individuals with chronic kidney disease and may help improve communication among both health care providers and the patients suffering with chronic kidney disease. It may further help with planning and referral for access procedures in these individuals. However, predicted risk may differ from observed risk in different populations. The individual should be in steady state when assessing the risk of progression and should not be used during acute illnesses or deterioration in clinical state. The risk may not be useful in individuals with renovascular disease, cardiorenal syndromes and heavy proteinuria. The individual patient should discuss with their kidney specialists to better understand this risk.
