Have you ever heard of a great emperor—the conqueror of two great empires, Roman and Persian—who didn't have a single aide. The people often saw him carrying a sack of flour and wheat, a bag of oil and dates, to distribute to the homes of widows and orphans. Alone!

That was Caliph Umar—a brave figure but full of calculations and likes to negotiate. He is the closest hawâri Rasulullah, a trusted person as well as his main adviser. He is the brightest friend, the inspiration for Muslims. He was the great emperor but his life was simpler than that of a slave: he ate barley bread or dates, drank water, and slept on worn mats. His clothes were full of seams because they were torn a lot.

Al-Faruq—the differentiator. That is the nickname given by the Prophet to Umar. Umar really liked and often used this nickname. He was nicknamed that because Umar could distinguish between right and wrong, good and bad. The Prophet said, “Allah has placed the truth in Umar's mouth and heart. He is able to distinguish between right and wrong," (HR Ahmad, Abu Dawud, Ibn Majah, al-Hakim).

Al-Faruq is also interpreted as the guardian of the Messenger of Allah and the dispersal of the ranks of the disbelievers, enemies who are always disobedient and against the message of Islam. When the Prophet preached secretly, Umar asked, "O Messenger of Allah, don't we live and die in truth?" "Yes!" replied the Prophet. “If so, why are we quietly preaching our teachings? For the sake of the One who sent you in the name of truth, it's time for us to leave!”

After that, the Prophet came out with two rows of companions, each led by Umar and Hamzah. When they entered the Kaaba, none of the Quraysh dared to disturb them.
