Uthman ibn Affan was born six years after the Year of the Elephant, in 47 S.H. He was six years younger than Rasulullah SAW. He was born in Taif, the most fertile area in the Hijaz region. Like other Jazirah children, Uthman ibn Affan grew up in a cultural environment and people's lives that were filled with ignorance and misguidance. His way of life began to change when his chest cavity was suddenly filled with love for Ruqayyah, Muhammad's daughter. He had known her virtue and the nobility and honesty of her father, Muhammad. He wished that Ruqayyah would be his life companion. But sorrow filled his chest; his heart was filled with silence and sadness when he heard that the girl he adored was married to Abu Lahab's son.
