About Vibration Meter & Seismometer
Measure the vibration of a washing machine, a floor or a motor in m/s².
Lay your phone on a washing machine or a motor and see how hard it shakes. Vibration Meter reads the phone's accelerometer and shows the vibration in m/s² on a live chart, with the minimum, average and maximum.
Next to the number you get a plain word (still, noticeable or strong) and the closest everyday match, such as a washing machine on spin or a hammer drill nearby. Under the main chart, three small charts show the X, Y and Z axes, so you can see which way the part moves.
Most checks with a vibration meter are a comparison. Press Before to save the average so far. Then level the machine's feet, tighten a mount or move the speaker, and the screen shows before and now side by side.
Left still on a floor or a desk, the phone works as a simple seismometer. Record the shaking from building work next door or a passing train, and the chart reads like a seismograph: you see when it peaked and how long it lasted.
Set a threshold and the meter becomes a vibration detector. It beeps when the shaking rises above your value or, if you choose, when it falls below it.
• Live reading in m/s² with minimum, average and maximum, plus Hold and Reset.
• Before and now side by side, to check a repair or an adjustment.
• Record saves a session to Saved measurements: chart, minimum, average, maximum, date and duration.
• Share a picture of the reading with its charts. Exporting a saved session as a short text report is part of the one-time purchase.
• Sound that follows the shaking: the clicks speed up as it grows, so you can listen without looking at the screen.
• The Phone Sensor screen: the accelerometer's name, maker, resolution and range, the measured sampling rate and the highest frequency this phone can tell apart.
• A home screen widget with the last reading and the time it was taken.
• A table of everyday levels, from a phone on a table to a hammer drill nearby.
• Save all your measurements to a text file from the About screen.
Good to know
The accelerometer measures how the phone's own body shakes. The reading depends on whether it lies on something or is held; to compare measurements, put the phone on the same surface each time. Gravity is taken out, so a phone lying still reads close to zero. The number matters less than how far above the background it rises. Measure the calm on a still support, then lay the phone on the part.
Phones differ, so compare before and after on the same phone. For a certified measurement you need a calibrated instrument. As a seismometer the phone only notices tremors that make it shake, and it gives no earthquake magnitudes or alerts.
Twenty saved sessions, before and now, the picture to share, the scale, the charts and the threshold with sound are free. A one-time purchase adds report export and keeps up to 50 saved sessions instead of 20. There is no subscription and there are no ads. Measuring works offline. The app sends anonymous usage statistics; you can turn this off in settings.
Independent development: one person builds and maintains this app. A letter to [email protected] is read by that person, not by a support desk.
