About Lent & Easter Prayers

Apart from the cross, there is no other ladder by which we may get to heaven.

Lent is the period of 40 days which comes before Easter in the Christian calendar.

Christmas and Lenten Season are two sides of the same coin. From the incarnation of Jesus Christ where Word was made flesh, Lent is about Jesus emptying himself in divine glory. The entire earthly life of Jesus is in fact kenosis, a continual process of emptying Himself out.

The purpose of Lent is the preparation of the believer for Easter through prayer, doing penance, mortifying the flesh, repentance of sins, almsgiving, and denial of ego.

Lent begins with Ash Wednesday, where a sign of the cross is marked on the forehead with ashes to remind us that we were made for dust and to dust we shall return, also as a sign of grief for the separation between us and God caused by our sin.

By observing the 40 days of Lent, Christians replicate Jesus Christ's sacrifice and withdrawal into the desert for 40 days.

When Jesus was fasting in the desert for 40 days, He was offered "great" worldly possessions by the devil and yet rejected them all. During Lent, Christians are called to do the same; it is a season of fasting, penance, and reflection.

Meanwhile, Palm Sunday lies on the last Sunday of Lent, which commemorates the triumphant arrival of Christ in Jerusalem, days before he was crucified.

Palm Sunday also marks the first day of Holy Week, the week that consists of both the greatest joy and sorrow of the year. Though Jesus was warmly welcomed into Jerusalem, many Jews hated Him and wanted Him stoned to death.

Holy Thursday is a commemoration of the Last Supper, where Jesus established the sacrament of Holy Communion and foretold a disciple's betrayal before being arrested. He then suffered under Pontius Pilate, tortured and carried His cross all the way to Calvary to be crucified (Good Friday). Three days later after His death, Jesus rose again (Easter Sunday).

Lent and Easter are two important seasons. Lent reminds us of who we are and what we are made for, to recall the sufferings Jesus went through, and to grow deeper in relationship with Him.

However, His resurrection also marks the triumph of good over evil, sin, and death. It is the singular event that proves that those who trust in God and accept Christ will be raised from the dead.

Therefore, Easter gives us hope as we recall how God has fulfilled His promise to mankind by giving us His Son.

To be able to fully live out these two important seasons, we need proper guidance, and this is offered by our LENT & EASTER PRAYER APP! And, remember 40 days is really not as long as you think it is.
