Clube de Regatas do Flamengo (better known simply as Flamengo, and popularly by the nicknames of Mengo, Mengão and Fla) is a Brazilian multi-sport association based in the city of Rio de Janeiro, capital of the state of the same name. Founded in the Flamengo neighborhood to compete in rowing on November 17, 1895, it became one of the most successful and popular clubs in Brazilian sport, especially football. Its traditional colors are red and black and its biggest sporting rivals are Vasco da Gama, Fluminense and Botafogo.
