MathKarate

MathKarate is an application for kids between 6 and 10 in which they can practice basic

arithmetic operations. Kids can progress from the simplest exercises to more complex,

from additions and subtractions up to 10, through additions and subtractions

to 100 with carry, multiplication table up to the combination of

additions/subtractions with multiplication/division.

Nowadays we concentrate a lot to teaching kids understand but we are forgetting

the drill. MathKarate is trying the make the drill a bit more acceptable using

a system of belts, like in Karate.

Within each belt the kids practice all the exercises necessary for passing exams

for the next belt. They can also proceed directly to the belt exercise.

The kids proceed from the simplest exercises to more complex, using the

system of belts and logs. They can return to the failed exercises.

The parents can verify if and when the kids did their exercises,

how successful they were, and where they made mistakes.

MathKarate starts with the simplest additions and subtraction. Continues with calculations with carry, through multiplication table, stopping by the additions of tens, exercises with the operator priority.

MathKarate contains the following types of exercises:

• White: Additions and subtractions up to 6, 8 and 10

• Yellow: Additions and subtractions up to 14 with carry, up to 20 without carry, and tens up to 100

• Orange: Additions and subtractions up to 16 with carry, up to 30, 40 and 50 without carry

• Green: Additions and subtractions up to 16 with carry and up to 100 without carry

• Cyan: Additions and subtractions up to 100 with carry

• Blue: Multiplication and division by 1, 2, 3, 4, 5

• Magenta: Multiplication and division by 6, 7, 8, 9

• Red: Multiplication, division, addition and subtraction up to 100

• Brown: A mixture of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, addition and subtraction up to 1000, multiplication and division up to 100

• Black: A few jokes at the end
