Application for Mediascope research participants

Searching for products and making purchases using mobile applications on smartphones, reading news on popular sites, watching videos and looking at maps to find the right address is an integral part of today's life. But applications and websites are not always convenient for users, which complicates access to the necessary information. To make the work of your favorite applications and sites better and more convenient, this sociological study of the mobile Internet audience is being conducted.

Participation in the study is an opportunity to directly influence application and website developers, advertisers, and manufacturers of various goods. We are studying the audience of mobile Internet users in Russia - interests, profile and consumer preferences. This data helps major companies across the country better understand their consumers, develop their Internet services and make them more convenient for users.

All participants are randomly recruited and receive an individual invitation containing detailed information about the study. It is impossible to take part in the project at will.

Each participant installs the Mediameter application on their personal mobile devices (smartphone/tablet) and enters an individual registration code. Then the application runs in the background and does not require active actions; it is enough to check the correct operation of the application in the “Statistics” section once a day (or once every few days). If there are problems with the application, you will see an error message in the main window when you open the application. If necessary, each participant can contact technical support using the contacts specified in the individual invitation or within the application.

We guarantee the protection of personal data of study participants. All information that we collect is completely confidential and is included in the final statistics only in an anonymized and generalized form.

**Using the AccessibilityService API:

We use the accessibility service to collect data about visited web resources (domains) on the Internet and search queries. All data during transmission is encrypted and used in an anonymous and strictly depersonalized form and is not transferred to third parties. The application never uses the accessibility service to perform any active actions on behalf of the user. Connecting this service allows us to improve the quality of our research into the popularity of resources on the Internet.

**Using VPN service (VpnService):

Because Mediameter is an audience research application for mobile apps and websites, the app uses VpnService as its primary means of monitoring mobile app usage among research panel participants. In this case, Mediameter uses VpnService as a local tunnel and does not send VPN traffic to the server. Processing and analysis of meta-data collected using VpnService is carried out directly on the research participant’s device. Aggregated and anonymized application usage monitoring data does not contain personal or confidential user data and is transmitted to the company’s servers only in encrypted form.
