The Mercedes S-Class will be available with four 3-liter six-cylinder engines, two kinds of petrol, and two types of diesel. The Mercedes-Benz S-Class is available in six models, including the S350 turbodiesel and S400 hybrid, with six-cylinder engines; the S550 and S63 AMG, both with V-8 twin-turbo engines; and the S600 and S65 AMG, both V-12 turbos. The 2021 S-Class is offered in three body styles and four variants, while the upcoming 2022 Maybach S-Class will be offered as a sedan. While the 2021 Mercedes-Benz S-Class starts at a significantly higher price than its impressive predecessor, the new S-Class has many upgrades and improvements to justify its six-figure price tag. While the German company says there won't be a next-generation S-Class coupe and convertible (called a convertible), these 2020-20 models will carry over into 2021 without any changes. Mercedes-Benz hasn't said whether the W223 will be the last model with the nameplate combustion engine -- for now, the all-electric EQS is a separate model -- although the new model will likely be.

Today, Mercedes uses the single "S" designation followed by a number indicating engine displacement, so the V8-powered S550 sedan refers to the 5.5-liter S-Class. The Mercedes-Benz S-Class originated with the Ponton model in the 1950s, and since then, despite being introduced in 1972, the W116 generation has been the first model to take over the S-Class. Nearly 50 years later, the Mercedes S-Class is now in its seventh generation and, like all its predecessors, offers an unrivaled level of technology and luxury.
