mPAMANECH

mPAMANECH is an ANDROID based Application used by Community Health Volunteers (CHVs) in Kenya to collect Household Health information and provide referrals based on patient observations.

Each CHV is allocated a mobile phone (any simple Android phone will do), a unique Username (mobile number) and Password to login and access the application forms that have been structured for ease of use in a mobile phone environment.

The collected information is submitted in real-time to a backend server hosted in the clouds. The information is accessible from any web browser for analysis and reporting. The application also supports export to csv (Excel), pdf formats.

Other functions inbuilt in the application include a workflow process for form review, form application, form approval and form rejection for redo. The specific rejected forms are automatically redirected to the responsible CHV mobile phones quoting the reference number and indicating the reason for rejection to facilitate correction and re-submission.

A key feature in mPAMANECH application is the ability to pin point and record the exact geolocation of where the survey has been carried out. This is critical information that can be used in myriad of ways including export to a GIS, dispersion of CHVs, disease prevalence and improved service delivery.

Other information collected for surveys includes;

Surveyor geolocation – location of household when submitting form

Basic Information – County, Sub county, Village and Household

Mother information – Pregnancy status, individual birth plan, skilled/unskilled attendant, newborn visited, family planning

Child information – child 0-59 months growth monitoring, 6-59 on malnutrition, 12-59 dewormed

Referrals Information – referred for ANC, skilled delivery, family planning, PNC, child referred for immunization, incessant coughing, HIV counseling & testing, elderly (60+) referred for routing health checkups

Defaulters information – ANC defaulter referred, Immunization defaulter referred, TB treatment defaulter referred, ART defaulter referred

Death information – number of deaths in the month

Others – remarks/other services provided

Household information – Date of Data Collection, Household has functional latrine, hand washing facilities, household using treated water

The solution is presented in a simple and user-friendly platform making it usable by any one with limited education. The platform is multilingual to support various local languages to encourage survey acceptance and adoption. Build on open standards, the solution is easily integrated with 3rd party platforms and flexible enough to be migrated into other mobile platforms including iOS, windows phone and others.
