Reggaeton or Reggaeton is a musical genre that has its roots in Latin American and Caribbean music. Their sound is derived from Jamaican reggae, influenced by hip hop. It was first developed in Panama in the 1970s and early 1990s in Puerto Rico. It was born and grew out of the Jamaican community whose ancestors arrived in Panama, along with immigrants of Afro-Caribbean descent during the 20th century.

Reggaeton originated from its predecessor reggae in Spanish. After this event the reggaeton continued to be maintained as reggae originating from Jamaica, with the same instruments and the same melodies of voice but with different letters. While in Puerto Rico beats of reggae were used on bases of rap but with letters and different compositions.
