As the largest partner in the Tariff Association Northwestern Switzerland, the Basler Verkehrs-betriebe operate more than 180 kilometers of tram and bus lines in and around Basel-Stadt. 83 tram compositions and 82 buses are in daily use on 9 tram and 13 bus lines. BVB has been run as a public-law institution since 2006 and is 100 percent owned by the Canton of Basel-Stadt. 1241 BVB employees ensure smooth operation 365 days a year. BVB transports over 132 million passengers every year and in 2016 achieved an annual profit of CHF 313,396. (Figures as of December 31, 2016)
